What a delightful surprise to kick off the morning! While idly sipping my coffee and catching up on a few favorite blogs, I stumbled upon some truly fantastic news: I’ve been honored with the Stylish Blogger Award, graciously bestowed by Heather over at Decor4Poor. To say I’m thrilled would be an understatement – it’s moments like these that truly light up the blogging journey!

Receiving this particular recognition from Heather, of all people, came as a genuine shock – and in the best possible way. Not because I don’t admire her incredible work or find her blog inspiring, but because I recently realized I had been, shall we say, unintentionally rude to her. It’s a classic case of blogger’s guilt, and I feel it’s important to clear the air and explain the situation. The blogging world thrives on connection, and a delayed response, even accidental, can feel like a slight.
A few months back, my incredibly thoughtful partner, Scott, brought home a rather unexpected treasure: a sturdy wooden pallet. Now, for many, this might just look like a piece of discarded lumber, destined for the trash heap. But for a DIY enthusiast like me, it was a blank canvas, brimming with potential. I’ve always been captivated by the rustic charm of weathered, worn wood, and pallet wood offers the perfect texture and character to transform into something truly beautiful and unique for the home. I enthusiastically shared my excitement and initial ideas in this blog post, hoping to inspire others to see the hidden beauty in everyday objects.
Heather, being the supportive and creative blogger she is, saw my post and went above and beyond. She sent over a collection of awesome, inspiring images of pallet projects to spark my imagination. Her curated selection was a goldmine of ideas, from intricate furniture pieces to charming decorative accents. My absolute favorite among her suggestions was the concept of transforming a simple pallet into a functional and stylish desk. It perfectly embodies the spirit of creative reuse and sustainable design – taking something overlooked and giving it a brand new, elevated purpose. Her thoughtfulness truly stood out, making my subsequent oversight even more regrettable.
Typically, when readers leave comments or questions on my posts, I make a concerted effort to reply directly within that same post. This isn’t just a random preference; it’s a practice I’ve adopted for several practical reasons that I believe foster a more engaged and helpful community. Firstly, a significant number of commenters use a “[email protected]” email address in their profiles, which, frustratingly, makes it impossible to respond to them directly via email. It’s a common oversight, so for those reading, please do take a moment to check your profile settings – ensuring a valid email is linked allows for direct communication and strengthens the blogging network. Secondly, by answering questions publicly on the post, I often find I’m proactively addressing similar inquiries that future readers might have, creating a valuable resource that benefits everyone. This approach builds a shared knowledge base and saves time in the long run. And finally, on a more personal note, replying directly on the post itself is simply more convenient for me. I’ll admit, a touch of laziness might factor into it, but at least I’m honest about my efficiency preferences!
However, none of these perfectly valid reasons can excuse my lapse in communication with Heather. It wasn’t until a staggering two months had passed that I realized I hadn’t responded to her incredibly kind and inspiring email. Two months! In the fast-paced and interconnected world of blogging, such a delay is, quite frankly, inexcusable laziness. I felt an immediate pang of shame and swiftly sent her a heartfelt apology, expressing my sincere regret for the oversight. The blogging community thrives on mutual support and prompt communication, and I deeply value the connections I make here.
So, returning to my main point (before I embarked on yet another tangent, a habit I’m known for!) – I received the prestigious Stylish Blogger Award! This recognition is not just about personal achievement; it’s about celebrating style, creativity, and community within the blogging sphere. It’s a wonderful way to acknowledge the hard work and passion that goes into creating engaging content, and it truly motivates me to continue pushing the boundaries of DIY and home decor.
To accept this wonderful award, there are a few traditional rules that come with it, and I am delighted to use this post to officially comply and pass on the appreciation:
- First and foremost, one must sincerely thank the kind person who nominated and bestowed the award upon them. So, from the bottom of my heart: Grazie mille, domo arigato, danke schoen, and a huge thank you to Heather at Decor4Poor for this incredible honor. Your generosity and recognition mean the world to me.
- Secondly, the recipient is asked to share seven unique and interesting facts about themselves. This is a fantastic opportunity to peel back the curtain a little and allow my wonderful readers to get to know the person behind the blog on a more personal level.
- And finally, the spirit of this award is all about paying it forward. The recipient is encouraged to pass on the Stylish Blogger Award to other deserving bloggers whose work they admire and let them know about their nomination. This practice beautifully highlights the supportive and encouraging nature of our creative community. (Consider it done, and done! I’ve already reached out to a few fantastic blogs).
Seven Things About Myself: Unveiling the Person Behind the DIY Projects
This award tradition offers a perfect chance to share a little more about my life beyond the sawdust and paint swatches. Here are seven personal facts, offering a glimpse into what makes me, me:
1. My Favorite Interactive Movie Experience: Watching Scott Play RPG Video Games. While I’m not a gamer myself in the traditional sense, I absolutely adore watching Scott immerse himself in complex role-playing video games. For me, it’s akin to watching an incredibly elaborate, interactive movie where I get to indirectly influence the main character’s journey by offering “strategic” (and sometimes completely unhelpful) advice from the sidelines. I love getting lost in the rich narratives, intricate world-building, and character development, all without the pressure of having to master the controls myself. It’s the perfect blend of storytelling and engagement, without any of the actual gameplay responsibility.
2. DIY Enthusiast, Not HGTV Addict. It might seem counterintuitive for someone who dedicates a significant portion of their life to home projects, but despite being a whole-hog DIY aficionado, I don’t actually watch much HGTV. While I appreciate the inspiration, sometimes the polished perfection on display feels a bit removed from the messy, real-life process of home improvement. However, there are a select few shows that have captured my attention and linger on my DVR (often unwatched for far too long!). These include Dear Genevieve, which I love for its thoughtful design philosophy and unique aesthetic; Professional Grade, offering insights into craftsmanship and high-quality finishes; and my relatively new discovery, Disaster DIY. The latter was serendipitously found when my DVR mistook it for a Dear Genevieve episode, and I’m so glad it did! It’s incredibly relatable to see the humorous side of home renovation gone awry, reminding us that mistakes are a part of the process, even for the pros.
3. The Unbearable Symphony of Mouth Noises. If there’s one category of pet peeves that truly grates on my nerves, it’s mouth noises. Seriously, these sounds drive me absolutely bonkers. From the blatant auditory offense of chewing with an open mouth to the incessant smacking of gum, the barely audible yet utterly distracting sssp sssp sssp of whispering that becomes all hiss and no substance, to the loud slurping of drinks. And don’t even get me started on that distinct smackety-smack noise that often accompanies heated disagreements, usually followed by an exasperated “…man.” All of it, every single one of these sounds, drives. me. CRAZY. Even whistling, which many find charming, I find deeply unsettling. It’s always been tied to a creepy, ominous feeling for me, a direct association with horror movies. If you want to understand exactly what I mean, watch the film Fallen – you’ll never hear whistling the same way again.
4. A Devotion to Savory Over Sweet. When it comes to taste preferences, I am unapologetically team salty and buttery. While I can appreciate a well-made dessert, my cravings almost always lean towards savory snacks. Give me crispy, salty chips, perfectly buttered popcorn, or a delicious savory pastry over anything sugary, any day of the week. I truly believe that good carbs, especially when accompanied by that perfect salty-fatty combination, are one of life’s simple, undeniable pleasures. It’s my ultimate comfort food preference, and a well-deserved treat after a long day of DIY.
5. New Treasures Await! I just couldn’t resist! I recently acquired another piece of furniture, and actually, not just one, but two! They’re currently waiting in the wings, ready for their grand reveal. I’m incredibly excited about these finds and can’t wait to share their stories and my plans for them. Keep an eye on the blog next week, as I’ll be posting all the details and hopefully some inspiration for your own future furniture transformations!
6. Finally Delving into the Dragon Tattoo Series. The last book I fully devoured was Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I must confess, it had been sitting on my bookshelf for a good two years, patiently waiting its turn. And now, I deeply regret waiting so long to pick it up – it was an absolutely excellent book! The intricate plot, complex characters, and gritty atmosphere had me completely hooked from start to finish. I’m thrilled to know that the author has two more books in the series, and I plan to get to them ASAP. The only thing standing in my way is the perpetual state of home renovation; I just need to get another room in the house completely livable before I can truly escape into the world of Lisbeth Salander again!
7. The Pallet Still Awaits Its Destiny. And finally, circling back to where my initial “rudeness” originated – yes, it’s true. I still haven’t done a single thing to that darn pallet. Despite all the wonderful inspiration from Heather and my own grand visions, it remains in its original state, a testament to the ever-present challenge of finding enough time in a DIYer’s life. It’s a bit of a running joke, but I promise, its transformation is still on the horizon. Perhaps this award, and the renewed focus on inspiration, will be the catalyst it needs!
Thank you again to Heather for the incredible honor of the Stylish Blogger Award, and thank you to all my readers for being a part of this amazing journey. Your support and engagement make all the creative effort worthwhile.
I hope you all have a truly fantastic weekend filled with joy and perhaps a little DIY inspiration of your own! There are lots of exciting things coming up for the last week of November – it’s definitely time to get my craft on and bring some festive and creative projects to life!
