What a truly extraordinary week it has been! Unlike most ordinary routines, my recent days were spent amidst the bustling energy and iconic landscapes of New York City. This wasn’t just a leisure trip; it was an incredible opportunity that blended my passion for DIY with the vibrant world of media production. The concrete jungle, with its endless possibilities and dynamic rhythm, provided the perfect backdrop for an adventure that I can’t wait to share with you all.

An Unexpected Invitation to the Big Apple: Lowe’s and the World of DIY
The journey to New York began with an exciting invitation from Lowe’s, a brand synonymous with home improvement and DIY innovation. They extended an opportunity to a select group of bloggers, including myself, to collaborate on a unique project: sharing easy, impactful DIY tips that homeowners could tackle with confidence. But the real treat, the icing on the cake, was the chance to travel to New York City and witness our tips come to life through filming for their engaging #LowesFixinSix Vine series. This initiative aimed to deliver quick, digestible home improvement ideas in a fun, visual format, making DIY accessible to everyone. It was an honor to be part of a project that championed creativity and practicality.
The concept behind #LowesFixinSix was ingenious: distilling valuable DIY advice into short, six-second Vine videos. This required immense creativity and precision, transforming complex ideas into simple, visual narratives. Seeing the professional crew work their magic, turning everyday DIY projects into captivating stop-motion animations, was truly inspiring. It was a fascinating glimpse into the world of digital content creation and how brands are innovating to reach their audience. The final products, concise and incredibly helpful, were truly a testament to the team’s talent and dedication.
Behind the Scenes of #LowesFixinSix: My NYC Adventure Unfolds
I’m still buzzing from the experience and in the enjoyable process of sifting through countless photos and video clips from my time in New York. From candid behind-the-scenes shots of the Lowe’s filming to vibrant snapshots of my explorations around the city, there’s an abundance of stories and visuals waiting to be shared. You can definitely expect a comprehensive recap very soon, likely presented as a two-part series to do justice to all the excitement. I deliberately extended my stay, adding an extra day on either side of the filming schedule, purely for the joy of exploration. This was a conscious decision, as my previous visits to New York had been whirlwind affairs, packed with specific engagements and little time for sightseeing.
My only other real encounter with the city involved a memorable trip to visit my dear friend Carrie from Brick City Love and an exclusive tour of the iconic Hearst Tower with Good Housekeeping. Both were fantastic experiences, but they were also strictly scheduled, with me hopping on a plane right after to fly back home. This time, I was determined to immerse myself more fully in the New York experience, to wander, to discover, and to truly feel the pulse of the city. The opportunity to combine professional collaboration with personal adventure was simply irresistible, allowing me to craft a richer, more fulfilling narrative for my readers.

The Art of Stop-Motion: A Geektastic Experience
Observing the film crew in action was a highlight in itself. Their synergy, creativity, and problem-solving skills were captivating. But what truly fascinated me was delving into the intricate world of stop-motion animation. It’s a “geektastic” process of meticulous adjustments, tiny movements, and countless photographs stitched together to create seamless motion. From staging miniature scenes to fine-tuning lighting and capturing each minute frame, every step was a lesson in patience and artistic vision. I learned about the subtle nuances that bring inanimate objects to life on screen, turning simple DIY actions into engaging visual stories. This hands-on, observational learning experience provided a fresh perspective on how content is crafted and how even the simplest tips can be presented in an incredibly creative way.
Beyond the technical aspects, the atmosphere on set was vibrant and collaborative. There were moments of genuine hilarity, like the infamous “casting call for a walnut” – a testament to the detailed requirements of stop-motion. The crew’s passion for their craft was infectious, making the entire experience not just educational but genuinely fun. It was a stark reminder that even serious professional work can be infused with playfulness and creativity, especially when bringing imaginative ideas to fruition. This behind-the-scenes look at content creation, especially for a brand like Lowe’s, was invaluable and something I’m excited to share more about in my upcoming recaps.
My New York adventure wasn’t solely about work; it was a rich tapestry of memorable encounters and urban exploration. From enjoying local craft beers to getting hopelessly lost (and then found!) on the labyrinthine subway system, every moment added to the story. It was wonderful to reconnect with Carrie, a fellow DIY enthusiast, and to finally meet other incredible DIY bloggers in person for the first time. There’s a special bond among creators, and sharing experiences, both professional and personal, deepened those connections. And yes, there was even a rather bizarre (and hilarious) incident involving an NYU student that provided a truly unique “only in New York” moment. These diverse experiences made the trip exceptionally rich and provided ample material for storytelling.
Back to the Grind: Home DIY Projects Await
True to my nature, the moment I returned home, I immediately plunged back into my beloved DIY projects. There’s paint on my hands, a tell-tale sign of progress, and perhaps a speck or two of joint compound in my hair, confirming I’m right back in the thick of things. My New York adventure, while inspiring, served as a refreshing interlude, and now my focus is squarely back on transforming my home, one project at a time. There are plenty of exciting home updates to share with you, picking up right where I left off before my trip. It’s a continuous journey of renovation, and I’m thrilled to bring you along for every step.
A Call for Creativity: Dining Room Art & Kitchen Progress
First on the agenda is an exciting art project for the dining room – a space that’s slowly but surely coming into its own. I’m currently pondering some creative ideas and would genuinely love your input on this. Your collective wisdom and artistic suggestions are always invaluable, and I’m eager to hear what you think would best complement the evolving aesthetic of the room. Additionally, my attention has now shifted to the kitchen walls, which marks a significant milestone in my ongoing renovation efforts. The kitchen is the absolute LAST room in this entire house that requires skim coating, a task that, while laborious, brings immense satisfaction. Reaching this point feels like a monumental achievement, and I can almost taste the victory of smooth, perfectly prepped walls. Huzzah!
The satisfaction of seeing a room transform through hard work and creativity is truly unparalleled. Each brushstroke, every application of compound, brings me closer to the vision I have for my home. It’s a labor of love, a continuous process of learning and adapting, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. While the hustle and bustle of New York were exhilarating, there’s a unique joy in returning to the quiet satisfaction of home improvement, seeing tangible progress, and knowing that each effort contributes to making my house truly a home.
Gosh, writing about all these adventures, both urban and domestic, makes it feel like a lot of content is brewing! But I’m absolutely up for the challenge. You can anticipate the first installment of my New York recap, or perhaps a juicy home update, to go live sometime between tonight and tomorrow. Stay tuned for all the details, photos, and perhaps even a few more laughs from my latest escapades.
P.S. How was your week? I’d genuinely love to hear about what exciting projects you’ve been working on, or any interesting experiences you’ve had. Let’s share and inspire each other!
Oh, and about that bizarre encounter with the NYU student in New York… Of course I captured a photo! Who wouldn’t document such an unexpected, albeit strange, moment? I’ve been debating whether I should humorously add a censor bar and blur out the individual’s face, Tosh.0-style, or if it’s perhaps wiser to simply keep that particular snapshot to myself. Then again, this entire blog is, in many ways, one great big overshare, isn’t it? Ultimately, I’ll weigh the options and make a decision – you’ll just have to wait and see what makes it into the upcoming recap!
