Bloggers’ Shopping Secrets

Today’s insightful post, brimming with inspiration for crafting a home you truly adore, is brought to you by Service 2000. Just as a reliable appliance, like a seamlessly functioning dishwasher, forms the backbone of a well-loved home, so too does thoughtful design and timely maintenance. While my heart might still flutter for the practical joy of a new palm router – arguably my favorite Christmas gift – I confess a deep passion for the thrill of the hunt, especially when it involves unique finds for the home. Join me as I recount a delightful journey through Atlanta’s vibrant design scene, a day filled with camaraderie, culinary delights, and boundless inspiration for creative living.

There’s something truly special about connecting with fellow creatives, especially when those connections lead to adventures. That’s precisely what happened last Saturday when a wonderful group of Atlanta-area bloggers decided to gather for a much-anticipated day of lunch and shopping. The excitement was palpable! These meet-ups are invaluable, offering a chance to share insights, discuss the latest trends in home decor and DIY, and simply enjoy the company of like-minded individuals. For anyone passionate about transforming living spaces, these interactions are incredibly invigorating, fueling new ideas and confirming that we’re all navigating the wonderfully chaotic journey of home improvement together. From discussing budget-friendly hacks to dreaming about elaborate renovations, the shared enthusiasm makes every moment memorable.

The beauty of the Atlanta blogger community is its blend of familiar faces and exciting new connections. It was a joy to reconnect with several talented individuals I’d previously met at other local events, whose work consistently inspires. Among them were Rhoda from the fantastic Southern Hospitality blog, a true maven of classic Southern style; Christina from The Frugal Homemaker, whose savvy tips make stylish living accessible to everyone; and Amy from ModPodgeRocks, a creative genius known for her incredible DIY projects. Our group also welcomed some wonderful new additions, including Sally from Homemaking Reality, whose fresh perspective on home and family life promises to be a wonderful addition to our network. These gatherings are not just about shopping; they are about building a supportive community where we can learn from each other and celebrate our individual passions.

Our day began with an early lunch at the renowned JCT Kitchen, a gem located in the heart of Atlanta. This spot is famous for its elevated Southern cuisine, and it certainly did not disappoint. While their grilled cheese sandwich is, without exaggeration, an absolute masterpiece – a harmonious blend of gooey perfection and savory crispness – it was a smaller, more charming detail that truly captured my attention and sparked a little joy. The coffee service was simply delightful. Instead of the usual single mug, our coffee was delivered in an elegant carafe, reminiscent of a delicate wine decanter. This allowed us to refill our cups as needed, ensuring a steady stream of warmth and caffeine throughout our conversations. It’s these thoughtful, often overlooked touches that transform a meal into an experience, reminding me that even the simplest things can be made extraordinary with a bit of intention. I confess, I have a soft spot for such wonderfully quirky and efficient design choices!

With appetites satisfied and spirits high, we embarked on our first window shopping excursion to the illustrious Jonathan Adler store. Stepping into this vibrant space felt like entering a carefully curated wonderland where mid-century modern aesthetics meet playful contemporary design. It’s a true feast for the eyes, showcasing a brilliant kaleidoscope of colors, luxurious textures, and captivating finishes that immediately inspire. I emphasize “window shopping” because, let’s be honest, Jonathan Adler pieces are an investment. However, the experience goes far beyond what one can afford; it’s about soaking in the creative energy and gathering invaluable ideas for future home decor projects. The store perfectly embodies a philosophy of “happy chic,” demonstrating how a bold mix of patterns and unexpected elements can elevate any living space from ordinary to extraordinary. Every corner presented a new vignette, sparking endless possibilities for adding personality and flair to our own homes.

Among the dazzling array of items, a particular light fixture caught my eye – a true showstopper with its unique silhouette and modern elegance. I wisely steered clear of peeking at the price tag, knowing that lighting fixtures often represent a significant design investment, especially at a high-end store like Jonathan Adler. My budget, for now, is more aligned with dreaming than acquiring such grand pieces. Even a charming banana bud vase, a testament to the brand’s whimsical touch, felt like a distant luxury. Speaking of bananas, this store seemed to have a delightful obsession with the fruit, incorporating it into various designs. I found myself completely captivated by a banana-themed rug, immediately imagining it as a quirky, inviting centerpiece for an entryway. I firmly believe that a home’s entrance should be an instant revelation of the homeowner’s personality, and for me, that always includes a splash of vibrant color and a touch of the unexpected. This rug perfectly encapsulated that playful yet sophisticated vibe, proving that even a humble fruit can become an icon of chic design.

Our journey through Atlanta’s design landscape led us next to Switch Modern, a store that immediately captured my attention with its bold, contemporary aesthetic. Much like our previous stop, this was primarily a “looky-loo” expedition rather than a “purchase-y” one, but the inspiration was just as abundant. Switch Modern specializes in high-end, cutting-edge furniture and accessories, showcasing a blend of minimalist design and artistic flair that truly pushes the boundaries of conventional decor. The pieces here are not just functional; they are statements, often appearing more like sculptures than everyday items. I was particularly amused and intrigued by a tray adorned with wild animal portraiture – an unexpected yet captivating piece. It begged the question: would anyone actually like a tray of wild animal portraiture for their home? The answer, in the world of unique contemporary design, is undoubtedly yes! It’s a wonderful example of how personal expression can be woven into every aspect of home styling, prompting me to think about incorporating more daring and conversation-starting pieces into my own space.

Our final, and perhaps most exciting, stop was at Savvy Snoot, a legendary consignment shop in Atlanta that Rhoda, with her extensive knowledge of local treasures, enthusiastically described as one of the very best. This place is a veritable Aladdin’s cave for home decor enthusiasts and antique lovers, boasting three full floors, each offering a distinct and immersive atmosphere. The main floor was a masterful blend of various styles, effortlessly mixing vintage finds with contemporary pieces, creating a rich tapestry of decor that resonated deeply with my eclectic taste. It’s truly a place where you can discover unique items that tell a story, making it a perfect hunting ground for those looking to add character to their homes without breaking the bank. The potential for uncovering hidden gems here is immense, proving that exceptional style doesn’t always come with a brand-new price tag.

Ascending to the top floor of Savvy Snoot was an adventure in itself, revealing a slightly kookier, more whimsical side of design. I found myself completely captivated and delightfully distracted by the astro turf underfoot – an unexpected, playful touch that instantly transformed the space and put a smile on my face. It’s details like these that make exploring consignment shops so thrilling; you never know what delightful surprises await. This floor felt like a playground for imaginative decorators, encouraging a departure from convention and a embrace of bold, unconventional choices in home styling. It reinforced the idea that home decor should be an extension of your personality, allowing for fun and unexpected elements that bring joy and character to your living environment, much like a perfectly working dishwasher from Service 2000 contributes to the overall happiness and efficiency of a household.

The bottom floor of Savvy Snoot, in contrast to the whimsical top floor, offered a treasure trove of magnificent antique pieces, each with its own history and charm. It was here, amidst a collection of timeless furniture and architectural salvage, that I stumbled upon the corbels I had mentioned in a previous post. There were two beautiful options, but the one on the left immediately spoke to me, and yes, that’s the one I proudly took home! I already have an exciting plan to incorporate it into a special project for our guest room, although, in true DIY fashion, I anticipate its completion sometime within the next decade. Ha! The allure of transforming these historical pieces into something new and personal is incredibly satisfying. Beyond the corbels, my eyes lingered on a stunning reclaimed wood table, an absolute dream piece. I’m now on a mission to find a reliable source for reclaimed wood in the Atlanta area, hoping to embark on a DIY project to recreate something similar. Imagine the character and warmth such a piece could bring to a dining area or even a spacious entryway!

My quest for unique home decor extends beyond the corbels and a reclaimed wood table. I’m also desperately in need of a new coffee table. The one currently gracing my living room is a relic from my post-college apartment days – cheap, functional in its time, but now adorned with more water rings than pristine spots and bearing the indelible marks of several moves in the form of irreparable dings and chips. It’s a testament to its long service, but it’s high time for an upgrade. I’ve been envisioning a piece that not only serves its purpose but also acts as a stylish focal point in the room. This shopping trip provided a plethora of ideas, from sleek modern designs to rustic wooden options. I guess I know exactly what project to prioritize once the dining room renovation is complete, eh? Investing in lasting furniture and maintaining a well-organized home, just like ensuring your appliances are in top shape with expert appliance repair services, truly elevates the overall living experience.

All in all, our day of exploring Atlanta’s unique shops was an overwhelming success, a perfect blend of social connection and design inspiration. Beyond the fantastic corbels, I did manage to acquire one more item: a luxuriously soft blanket. Its destiny, however, remains undecided – should it become a piece of textile wall art, adding warmth and texture to a room, or serve its traditional purpose, offering cozy comfort? Once I make that crucial decision, I’ll be sure to share the reveal! The immense upside to such immersive window shopping is the deluge of ideas it provides for my home. The intriguing paradox is that this very abundance of inspiration also presents a challenge; I now have a seemingly endless waitlist of projects and decor dreams, far more than I can tackle all at once. Yet, I wouldn’t have it any other way. To have a wellspring of creativity constantly bubbling, fueling future projects and keeping the desire for a beautiful, personalized home alive, is a privilege. I’d always choose to have too many inspiring ideas rather than too few, every single day. What sparks your home decor inspiration?
